Smart Wifi Controllers for Ductless Minisplit systems
Heating and cooling technology has come a long way since Willis Carrier invented what would become the modern version way back in 1902. Although his first model was meant only to manage humidity in the printing plant where he worked, the idea of 'conditioned' cooling and heating caught on very quickly. With the recent advent of wireless technology becoming ubiquitous it was only a matter of time before this trusted and true creature comfort caught up. In the early days, each company had to manufacturer their own version, sometime with seperate adapters for each model such as the Midea models:



While this does allow the user the full spectrum of features available on each model and each unit, the idea for an interchangeable universal wifi was just around the corner. Today thankfully even this tech has matured, and there are numerous options.

Perhaps the simplist and most versatile solution is the UFO Controller. The Universal wiFi Option was created to control many things, not just your heating and cooling system. This is perhaps the most versatile and most economical of all the controllers but has some tradeoffs:

App Displays Set Temperature in Celcius (Until the app is updated)
Does Not Have Sensor (Doesnt Display Room Temp/Humidity)

While the Pro's outweight the Con's, it is also important to keep in mind the units ability to control multiple items. This would be a good option if you're looking to replace other remotes in the same general area. Being able to set up a schedule for lighting and TV to come on and off while you are away is always a good deterent to any would be snoopers.

Another option is the Pebble Wifi Interface - a bit pricier than the basic UFO, but designed specifically for minisplit heating and cooling systems. As with other controllers, the Pebble must be in the line of sight of the unit to be controlled.
